Huxlie currently cosists of Stainless steel, 925 sterling silver and 18K gold plated jewellery. Details of each piece, including materials and dimensions, can be found in their respective descriptions on our website.
Our jewellery is designed to resist turning blue or green on the skin. They are suitable for everyday wear; however, to maintain their longevity, it's essential to follow our jewellery care guidelines, as some materials may wear faster over time without proper care.
Below is a detailed guide on the materials used to curate your Huxlie pieces:
925 STERLING SILVER
925 sterling silver is a popular material used in jewellery making due to its durability, affordability, and beautiful appearance. The "925" refers to the purity of the silver, meaning that it contains 92.5% silver and 7.5% other metals. The addition of these other metals, improves the hardness and strength of the silver, making it more suitable for use in jewellery. Sterling silver is also hypoallergenic and safe to wear for most people, making it a popular choice for those with sensitive skin. Jewellery made from 925 sterling silver can withstand daily wear and tear, making it a great option for everyday wear. With proper care, this type of jewelry can last a lifetime.
GOLD PLATING
Gold-plated jewellery is a type of jewellery that is made by applying a layer of gold to a base metal. The gold layer is usually between 0.5 and 2.0 microns thick and is applied using a process called electroplating. In this process, the base metal is submerged in a solution containing ions of the desired metal, in this case, gold. An electrical current is then applied to the solution, causing the gold ions to bond to the surface of the base metal.
GOLD PVD PLATING
Gold PVD plating is a process in which a layer of gold is deposited onto a surface through physical vapour deposition. This process involves heating a solid gold source in a vacuum chamber, which then vaporizes the gold atoms. The vaporized gold atoms then condense onto the surface that has been placed in the vacuum chamber, creating a layer of gold coating. The PVD process is known for its durability, resistance to wear and tear, and ability to create a uniform, high-quality finish.
GOLD VERMEIL (ver-may)
Gold vermeil is a type of high quality gold jewellery that has sterling silver as it core material and a thick layer of gold plating. This type of jewellery is made by coating a sterling silver base with a thick layer of gold through the process of electroplating. Compared to standard gold plated jewellery, the layer of gold in gold vermeil is up to 5 times thicker (above 2.0 microns).
GEMSTONES
Zircon is a mineral found in small quantities in many different rocks., and is the oldest gemstone on Earth. It can be found in a variety of colours, giving the rock its gemstone quality. Zircon is commonly found in the Earths crust, with some Zircon deposits taking millions of years to form. Most gem-quality Zircon is found in the colours yellow, red, or brown, but heating and radiation techniques can be used to produce blue, green and many other zircon colours.
*Don't confuse zircon with cubic zirconia - they are different types of stone*
